Hi,

I am a new member of the forum. I'm French and I'll be trekking along the Appalachian Trail with my boyfriend from May.

We'll be NOBO, arriving in Atlanta May the 3rd.

Could someone advise us about accomodation there ?

We would like to spend 3 or 4 nights in Atlanta before the beginning of the trek. We look for quite a cheap place (youth hostels, couch surfing...)

Thanks in advance

Virga and Dorian

Bon Jour. Welcome to the USA. A lot of young people like the 'little five points' section in Atlanta. Very Bohemian.

Have a great trip. See ya on the trail!

Can't help you with lodging advice but your post reminded me of a story my uncle told me:

He was backpacking in Europe and arrived at this tiny, remote German village and went into a local shop that was run by a very elderly woman. My uncle is a well-educated, successful guy but he doesn't know a word of German and he figured that no one in this hick town would speak English. He was pleasantly surprised the lady spoke English well and he talked to her for a few minutes about his travels. At the end of their conversation, the lady tells him, "You know, your English is quite good for an American."

Anyway, bravo for posting intelligibly. And, if you come across some guy named Matthewski, just run the other way. Good luck and enjoy your hike.

Youth Hostel (http://www.hostels1.com/CRP/CRPInterfaces/AtlantaHostel/TFWebForms/HostelBooking.aspx)in downtown Atlanta, about $30'ish/person/nite. Won't get a better price for an overnight in Atlanta unless its on somebody's couch.

Be careful at nite in that area. Just sayin'.

Hi everybody,

I'm very impressed because, usually, French people are known to be so bad in languages !

Thanks to Partinj and Dances with Mice for the addresses. These 2 places seem to be perfect : one to stay in Atlanta and visit the city, and the other one, the hiker hostel, which provides all the facilities for the trek !

It's very difficult to organize an AT from France. Hopefully, we can use the different american websites which really well explained how to organize it !

Thanks for all and see you on the trail !

www.hostelz.com (http://www.hostelz.com) is a good resource. I believe there's actually a couple of places in Atlanta.
