None. It's just an extra layer that makes you hotter in the summer, and takes longer to dry in the rain.

Boxerbriefs. The give you legs a little bit more support, like bike tights do.

I'm a fan of the Under Armour boxer briefs. I also like the Ex-Officio briefs. Both are a little pricey but last well. I know patagonia makes a brief but I've never worn them.

so, no undies... what about the liner that comes in most lightweight shorts? cut it out?

SGT Rock

cut it out.

I wear underwear though - too much chafe when I go commando. Microfiber boxer brief from Wal-Mart.

Commando if you can do it (I can't - I chafe like mad), otherwise boxer briefs or lycra/spandex shorts, and Tinactin powder. I wash up and let the jewels sparkle in the sunshine whenever I can.

Sewn-in mesh liners. The Patagonia boxer briefs I tried, alone with other microfiber briefs, just give me a wedgie after a few miles.

I am by no means and authority on this matter but here is an undershorts story.

I am the hiker in the family and when I gained a boyfriend about 3 years ago he began hiking along with me. We bought a new 2 man tent, made sure he was outfitted with a good sleeping bag and of course he wanted to be comfortable hiking and chose clothing for himself.

Our first over night we didn't make it to our planned camp and it got dark on us. I told him to pick a spot for our tent because his comfort was most important. (I can sleep on a rock hanging upside down, it doesn't bother me) We set up the tent, tossed in our sleeping bags and pealed off our sweaty clothes. I grinned when I saw him wearing the bright red nylon compression underwear he had purchased. Sexy wear!

We got into our sleeping bags and I was out in about 3 seconds. An hour later I woke to rustling and thought he was just uncomfortable sleeping on the ground. 30 minutes later, I hear a bit of cussing. Another 30 minutes later he was cussing a bit louder. He finally woke me up and asked how to he could keep the slick shell of the sleeping bag from sliding to the end of the tent and apparently his slick underwear kept him sliding to the bottom of the sleeping bag.

Every 30 minutes he was fiding himself in a fetal ball at the bottom of the sleeping bag which had slid to the end of the tent. The next morning when I woke up I found we had pitched our tent on a hillside. It sure looked flat in the dark.

Commando doesn't work for me. I wear the Exofficio bikini panties, they are women's underwear, but are the most comfortable I have found yet.

So Trailbender, exactly what size bra do you wear with your Exofficio panties? Gotta admit, even I have to snicker at typing the word 'panties'. Just a word guys have a problem using.

You have recommdation on razors for your legs?

Bra size? Guess it depends on how many socks I feel like stuffing in them that day. I don't use razors on my legs, a no guard hair clipper is fine, Nair causes chemical burns.

A word guys have a problem using? You have to get your mind off the social restrictions and taboos society has placed on us. We had a saying in the Army, "If it's stupid, but it works, it's not stupid." They are extremely comfortable to wear, and smaller in size/weight than men's underwear. I have tried the commando think, incredibly uncomfortable.

You could stick your wet fly or tarp in the bra and let your body heat dry it our. Keeps you cool. Dual Use.

under armour boxer briefs reinforced with right guard deoderant between cracks and around boulders, never been chafed since stated that. also good for heat rash and you could put deoderant on your feet for blister guard too.

I like Ex Officio boxer briefs as well. Wear one pair while the other pair's drying, which is like no time at all. No chafe, no swing, no rub. They last a lot longer than any of the other synthetic drawers I've tried.

Thread hijack...I use lightweight nylon hiking shorts with the mesh lining...no underware. But here's the problem: about one hour after hiking in these shorts, they develop a horrible stink, specifically the mesh lining. I have other articles of clothing w/the anti-stink technology. Anybody know of a lightweight nylon hiking shorts w/mesh liners that has this anti-stink technology? Thanks. :)
