Man! I still can't believe I'm about to do this. It has been a life long dream ever since my first backpacking trip at the age of 10. I'm so looking forward to the numerous challenges and adventures ahead but, more importantly, experiencing the beautiful serenity of the Appalachians for six months.
Wow! Did I just say six months. That's a really looooong camping trip. I think I'm still in a state of disbelief. I feel really prepared though and have never felt so at peace with a decision I've made. It's as if the universe intended me to have this experience the way everything fell in place.
I look forward to meeting many of you and, hopefully, making some lifelong friends. Good luck to you all. See you out there!:sun

Sweet, I'll be joining some friends who are starting tomorrow on Saturday afternoon somewhere down the trail. Maybe see ya out there. Remember my name, 'cause I am HORRIBLE with names and won't remember to ask you yours.

And most of all, GOOD LUCK!!

Here's wishing you plenty of sunshine, gentle breezes and just enough rain to keep the water sources reliable.

Be sure to smell the roses along the way ...

Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement. I've definately planned to take my time. I'm not trying to prove anything. I want to savor every moment...even the rainy cold ones.
Best of luck to those of you also heading out. See ya on the trail.

Well ...if 2009 is anything like 2003 you won't "savor" those rainy cold days after a while - - but you will remember them !!
