Closest access point to the AT from Fredericksburg VA?? [Archive]

I will be in Fredericksburg VA (above Richmond) for 2 weeks and wanted to know where the closest access point to the AT is. Wanted to sneak in an overnighter.:banana

Just head west. Wherever you cross the crest of the Shennandoahs, there's an AT trailhead.

..Take rt 64w to exit 99.....south is the Blue Ridge, north is Skyline Dr.....AT trail heads either way...

1 - 1.5 hrs. outta Richmond....or MapQuest your start point to Waynesboro..

Luray is an hour or less from Fredericksburg. You'll cross the Skyline drive/AT before you get there.

Go west out of F-burg to Culpeper, then up to Sperryville, then west on 211 to the Skyline Drive.

It's about an hour fifteen to Sperryville, then aobut 10 minutes up the mountain. Enjoy!
