View Full Version : Damascus to Fox Creek
In June me and 3 others are planning on doing the trail from damascus to fox creek. From what I have read it is pretty challengeing. I was just wandering what everybody thought of that section of trail we plan on doing it in 4 days and would like to do around 25-30 miles in the first two days.

the terrain is pretty easy. not very challenging at all unless you're 300 lbs. and never hiked before

I haven't done that section, but if you're not used to a lot of ups and downs, 25-30 mi. 2 days is do-able. Depends on your slowest hiker and any injuries that may occur (blisters, cramped muscles, etc.). Word to the wise: Pack Light!
By the way i forgot that we will also have a dog hiking with us.

Not challenging at all unless perhaps you've never backpacked in the mountains before. This is a very pleasant section with reasonable elevation change. I easily covered the 75 miles from Atkins to Damascus in just over 3 days, taking advantage of the extended daylight in early June. Hope you have great weather!

Just a heads up that Fox Creek is a known area for vehicle vandalism.

You could hike from Fox Creek into Damascus if you wanted to do more downhill than uphill. Also, Mount Rogers Outfitters in Damascus can shuttle you to or from Fox Creek for a reasonable fee.
