Boot VS Shoe Poll help needed

I seem to remember seeing a poll on what type of foot wear for the AT trail ?
Can someone point me to a poll or two about what people wear on their feet on the trail?
I am wanting this kind of info for a presentation I am giving.

The answer goes from barefoot to pegs (an amputee). Many prefer sneakers that are light and somewhat waterproof but breathe well. I prefer sandels made for hiking. The old boots are loved by some. Everyone flips a coin and learn from experience with their own feet.
