Your time frame will put you on The Long Trail before mud season has passed. GMC advises against use of higher elevation trails until after Memorial Day.

There are other good reasons why prudent hikers wait until June or even later.

I'm doing that stretch starting 6/15. But I am a slow hiker.

Have you ever attempted a hike of this length before?:-?

I'll need to deal with some other things tonight. Others will check in before long.

North Adams, MA. Hope to leave Monday morning, June 15th, 2009 and finish on Katahdin sometime between August 15-20, 2009. Like I said, I'm a slow hiker. I'm the Virginia Tortoise!

I read the book and saw the movie Into the Wild. I enjoyed McCandliss' free spirit.

I've thought it would be a neat trip to visit the bus and hike in the area, of course not in the winter. The way he died, I've read the book and seen the movie, makes me think that dying might have been what he wanted.

Anyway back to your trip, sounds like a great time, I've sectioned alot of the trail in the area that you are going to be. Some great trail! Good luck! I am longing for the day that I can do the whole trail or at least some really long sections!

I'm hiking from Salisbury CT to North Adams Mass starting either Monday 4/13 or Tuesday 4/14. If you're out there too, maybe we'll bump into each other.
