Those with a SPOT device can now have there locations show up on postholer maps (http://postholer.com/demo) from their journals. Every time a reader clicks on the map link or lat/lng link from your journal, your SPOT locations will appear.

It's easy to set up. Here's how:
+ in 'Journal Setup' add your SPOT device number (ESN)
+ optionally, select a display delay value
+ add [email protected] to your SPOT friends list

That's it! Your all set.

A huge thanks to Dan Cohen for his persistence and information provided to this project!

...and as always, no ads, no banners, no asking for donations. At postholer we never pander to your wallet. Hikers helping hikers, what a concept!

Spot says [email protected] ([email protected]) isn't a valid email address.

you can embed it in any journal or web page http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=258977 i stopped the min by min tracking (SPOT Share). gets a little weird after a while. using SPOT share, on the 8th day, day one goes away (only holds 7). you can have the KLM's uploaded to google map at home as i did. google map can only hold so many trackings , so it starts new pages. (mine have 3 to date)

I've embedded before. I was just replying to the specific post to "add [email protected] to your SPOT friends list." That feature doesn't seem to be working.

Kayak Karl, do you also use postholer or do you prefer trailjournals.com?

i was going to use postholer, but the site itself was a little confusing. many of my family are not computer savy:D. trailjournals worked well for me and with 135,00 hits (it was the winter, not many hiking:)) for only 2 months on trail it must be easy to get to the site. im starting SOBO in Augest. will finish up at Troutdale, where i left off. will still use trailjournals. because i never actually used posthole, i can't compare.

Spot says [email protected] ([email protected]) isn't a valid email address.

When you press the 'OK' button on the spot device, a list of folks are contacted. That's the list you need to add the email address to.

The SPOT map (or your embedded map) does not have the AT trail trace on it, nor does it have the Topo overlay available.

Also, you can place your journal entry's on the map if you specify a lat/lon in each journal entry.

Check out Powder Rivers (http://postholer.com/journal/viewJournal.php?event_id=223) journal from last year, he did an excellent job. Click on the AT Map link from any journal entry.

Most importantly you don't have to be technically savvy to have these features, they are just there for every journalist.

I'm not sure why that is. Others are not experiencing this.
