Can anyone recommend a good pair of hiking pants? Preferably not zip-offs. Thank you..

Check sierra trading post or campmor. More pants than you can shake a stick at.

My favorite hiking pants are some light nylon Moose Creek pants I found on STP for $15.

Buy some nylon jogging pants at Walmart for $10. They are lightweight, comfortable, easy to wash in a sink and dry quickly if you get rained on.

Anyone who would pay $80 bucks for hiking pants definitely isn't sweating the recession. I congratulate you.

I buy mine at G.W. Strauss (thats Goodwill to regular people), summer weight wool pants. A little modification with needle and thread and they're ready for the trail.

$2.00 off the rack.

I also just pick up the 'swishy britches' at Wal-Mart or Target or a local thrift store. Not sure what sort of hiking you are doing that puts holes in them. I have a couple pair that have got over 4000 miles of use and dont have any holes. I also like that they are very lightweight. They usually are not water resistant like rain paints would be, but they are breathable, so you arent likely to sweat from the inside

I can't really recommend anything. The best hiking pants I own are a hideous green color, and have the ability to repel trail magic.

:-? I think he means they make noise when you walk which sounds like swishing .
For me I wear hiking shorts made of nylon or something duo dry 99% time .

I usually buy mine at local Goodwill for no more than $5 but you can't be picky if saving money is the goal.

I know you said "Preferably not zip-offs", but I'm gonna recommend one anyway. I rarely zip off my my hiking pants, going with shorts, but I still like having the option.

REI Saharas are really hard to beat. http://www.rei.com/product/746907 The leg zippers are NOT a bother. You won't even know they are there until you want to use the zips.
