I was wondering how much capacity for water most folks carry on the JMT. I've never carried more than two quarts on the AT, but at the Grand Canyon for example it's necessary to have quite a bit more. What's the norm? Can I get away with two quarts in September?

I usually carry no more than 1 quart on much of the trail. I bring a 4 Liter bag for those times we decide to camp up high like on the summit of Whitney or other places where water is not nearby.
Ditto with the above. One bottle for hiking, with a larger bag for camp use.
