He's dead, actually.
It was an act. I personally thought it was hillarious. Anybody else notice a very young Goldie Hawn at the end of the clip leading him away?
I remember seeing that when it was new.

Anyone know why a person leaves his ukelele on the dashboard of his car?

What's the difference between a dead ukelele player and a snake in the middle of the road?

The snake was on his way to a gig.

AND

How do you make a ukelele player's car go faster?

Take the pizza delivery sign off the roof.

FINALLY

How do you tell if a stage is level?

The ukelele player has drool coming out both sides of his mouth.

OK ONE MORE

What do you call a ukelele player with no girlfriend?

Homeless.

What do you call a musician at a uke contest?

A visitor.

What's the definition of perfect pitch?

Throwing a uke into a garbage can without hitting the sides.

What do you call someone who hangs around with musicians?

A ukulele player

What's the best way to tune a ukulele?

With wire cutters.

When do uke songs sound the best?

When they're over.

I actually like ukuleles.

damn......people hate on the uke.......here are two of my inspirations, maybe you'll have a little more respect for such an under-rated instrument.

No, I like them, but I couldn't resist the jokes...

Yea, I like ukuleles too, just a bit, but they seem to be a musical lightening rod for the scorn of jokes.

Tiny bit off-topic, but here's a bagpipe joke:

Why did God give bagpipers a wee bit more brains than horses?

So they wouldn't crap during the parade.

I am planning on SOBO in 2010 with a buddy who is committed on bringing a travel banjo. I'll probably bring a travel mandolin on sections starting in NJ or VA from time to time. Play that ol' timey music all the way to Georgia! (of course I'll have my harmonica the entire time)

what's the difference between an onion and a banjo?
nobody cries when then chop up a banjo.

what's the difference between a banjo and a trampoline?
you take your shoes off to jump on the trampoline.

What's the difference between a banjo and a chain saw?
A chain saw has a dynamic range.

Why are banjos better than ukuleles?
They burn longer

How can you tell if a banjo player is at your door?
They can't find the key, the knocking speeds up, and they don't know when to come in.

You're lost in the desert and you see Bugs Bunny, a cactus, and a good banjo player. Who do you ask for directions?
You might as well try the cactus, the other two are figments of your imagination.

Why did the Boy Scout take up the banjo?
They make good paddles.

I recently had surgery on my hand, and asked the doctor if, after surgery, I would be able to play the banjo. He said, "I'm doing surgery on your hand, not giving you a lobotomy."

What should you do if you run over a banjo?
Back up…

Listener: Can you read music?
Banjo player: Not enough to hurt my playing.

No matter how much you tune it--it will still sound like a banjo!

What is the difference between grapes and a banjo?
You take off your shoes to stomp on grapes.

I'm an old-time band geek and have toted various instruments on the trail. One of my favorites is a large bamboo flute with really nice low tones. A penny whistle can be nice in the proper hands. After Tuba-Boy's thru hike I went out and bought me a smallish Eb backpacking tuba. I once bought myself a "teach yourself bagpipes" kit in hopes of eventually being able to play them from the top of ridges late at night to torment other campers......but I almost drove myself crazy!

I'm a band nerd but I don't think I hate myself or my fellow hikers enough to bring an instrument. I do have a mando but it's pretty heavy.

What a timely post. John King the man who totally rewrote the book on playing the ukulele passed away yesterday. His obituary is in the NY Times. He discoverd a very old baroque guitar tuning that he could apply to the ukulele and was thus able to play extremley difficult classical pieces. Check out his videos on you tube. What a talented guy!

I would worry about keeping it dry. One good soaking could ruin any instrument that is largely made of wood.
I play harmonica (sort of) but I really like quiet in the woods.
