We're going from Pinkham Notch to Franconia in mid June. Do we need to make reservations at the tent sites? Is it necessary?
weekends, maybe. how many are in your party?
You can't make reservations for the tent sites.
Arrive relatively early in the day and things will work out.

Tent sites and shelters are first come, first served.
Reservations are required at AMC huts only.
actually, groups of 6 or more, with 10 the maximum in designated wilderness areas, are strongly encouraged to register (the wording is must register) with the AMC at least two weeks prior to the trip. while not an official reservation, and it is first come/first serve, they want to know you are coming. that is why i asked how many in the op's group.
