I believe there is a parking area at Stecoah gap. Is it known to be a safe place to leave a vehicle for about a week? Or is there a better alternative?

Thanks.

I stopped and had lunch at the picnic table that's in this parking area last year. Don't know if it's a safe spot or not but the road is pretty well travelled (I guess that could be good or bad...).

It's also about 3 miles from the parking area to The Hike Inn - maybe you could park there and get Jeff or Nancy to shuttle you back up. http://www.thehikeinn.netfirms.com/

I've parked there for 4 days once with no problems...but you're always at your own risk with that stuff.

Not sure which direction you're heading but don't make the mistake I made when I sectioned north through there...using the guide book I planned to camp at the campsite by the stream just north of Walker Gap...mistake....it was more like a mud-pit. Might be better now but I wouldn't count on it. Have a great hike. I'm heading out in a couple of weeks to section from Dick's Creek Gap up to Winding Stair Gap. Cheers, bill
