Where would I buy a scale for weighing packs? The kind that hangs down, not the digital ones that you set the pack on. Would like it to go up to 100 lbs just so it's not overburdened at 30 or 40 lbs.

I got mine through ebay by doing a search for "hanging scale". I got one like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/Digital-Hanging-Hunting-Fish-Fishing-44lb-0-02lb-Scale_W0QQitemZ110346415303QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_D efaultDomain_0?hash=item110346415303&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

I don't know exactly who I bought it through. Works fine. Measures to the ounce (not to the fraction of an ounce, as advertised). It's nice and small, I've brought it several times with me to local sporting goods stores.

Tractor Supply carries them, the 50# version should be enough

Thanks everyone. We'll check out the recommendations. The rational part of me wants to know what my pack weighs........the rest of me says Hell no! It is what it is! :)

Mrs Baggins, the older we get, the weight becomes more of a Oh No!

The folks that posted Walmart fish Scales are right on, I picked up mine from Dick's Sporting Goods, for $15. It's a good test of finding out if you need to do more to conserve. I like it as it appears to be more accurate than a digital bathroom scale, stepping on and off and doing the math.

I cheat, I way myself with the pack on, then weigh myself with the pack off and subtract to get the difference. Probably not as accurate as some scales would be, but it is cheap and easy

But some folks don't want to know what the "tare" weight is. ;):D
