I ask about zip off pants in a early post but forgot to ask about taking a set of light weight long underwear with me. I start my sect hike on June 4 gone north from Damascus Va.
if i don't take the rain pants and the long underwear that would save me 1lbs 8oz.
:-?

I always carry long underwear, no matter the time of year. You just never know when the temps are going to drop, especially in the mountains.

Try ThermaSilk long underwear. It's really comfortable and warm for the weight.

You do not need long johns in June if you have adequate sleeping gear. Maybe a light vest and watch cap for warmth.

Lightweight silks are good for sleeping in summer because they keep you from sticking to everything.

I would not take long undies in June.

Ditto on Spock. I carry the lightest ones Campmor has on all but short section hikes where the weather looks perfect. Packed, they're about the size of an orange and weigh a hundred grams or so.

You didn't ask, but I don't carry rain pants in summer, though. I just get wet and enjoy it. After all, I could be at work.

All I had was a light polypro top and a pair of light microfleece pants for the summer, just in case I needed it in my 40 degree bag.

I just got some polypro thermal top and bottom at http://outersports.com/navy-100-polypropylene-underwear-p-2856.html . The top weighs 6.1 oz. and the bottom weighs 5.6 oz.

I don't always carry them, but I'm likely to use long johns when I have them. OTOH, I often carry, but have never used, my rainpants.:-?

Spock was spot-on.

Unless you are very cold natured I don't think the thermals will be necessary for warmth (again, we're talking GA in June), BUT they would have other functions that would be very valuable...then you'd have them secondarily as extra warmth.

I wear silk weight long-johns to bed, even in summer, to keep my sleeping bag clean (instead of using a liner) and they also make me feel cleaner, keeping me from feeling sticky.

So you got 'em for that purpose then they also serve as a second set of clothes or warm-wear should you need it.

More multi-use than than rain pants or nylon pants IMO.
