seems like a question you should ask before you buy it...granted, it's REI and their return policy that you cannot go wrong with it.

I've got one, and I'm really happy with it. Great for 2.

I have a T1, and it's been great for me so far - with 10 nights' use, including some mild rain. The poles are slightly long and unwieldy during set-up, but they're a snap once you get used to them.

...just realized you're doing a thru-hike. Consider trading in the T3 for a T1. I'm 6'0 and can sit up straight comfortably in mine, without brushing my head against the peak. My backpack also fits in the large vestibule in a pinch, if it looks like rain.

When you start slogging away the miles in the south, you'll be counting the ounces on your back and may reconsider the T3. Who knows, you could easily end up spending 75% or more of your nights in shelters anyway. Just another opinion.

Sounds good, if you mean 2 people will split the weight or some such. The "T" series by REI are great, spacious, light-weight tents IMHO. I have the T2 for me and my wife.

Don't use the stuff sacks, and you lose 4 oz. Lose more with better stakes.

I've been using the quarterdome for a few years for 1-3 night backpacking trips. It's held up well, including in torrential downpours. It's in great shape and I've been happy with it.
