What would you all suggest is the best way to get to the ME trailhead from NJ?
I am planning on leaving in June '10 and want the fastest/cheapest method.
Really, what do you think will be the fastest without being too expensive?

Bus, then cab or shuttle service

Fastest isn't cheapest. Fastest: fly to Portland, have shuttle service take you to the trailhead. Cheapest: Bus, cab or shuttle from Medway to the AT Lodge in Millinocket, shuttle into Baxter. Just for planning purposes you need to know the bus from Bangor to Medway gets in about 7:45 PM.
See the ATC's ALDHA Thru-hikers' Companion for more detail: http://www.aldha.org/companyn.htm

Walk? ;) Just kidding.

If you were willing to shell out, you could have someone drop you off. About $30-50 for the trip, 11 hours for you to ME, and then 11 back for the driver.
