Thinking about picking up this stove, anyone have experience with it? It uses canister fuel, and I'm wondering if you possitively HAVE to use the primus fuel. Could you use fuel from another manufacturer like Jetboil, etc. Currently have the whisperlite internationale but might be doing an E2E of the LT this summer, and there is a possibility I could end up doing it solo so I wanted to try a smaller, lighter stove. Thanks for any input...

There was another thread on this:

You should be able to use other manufacturer's fuels. I've seen reviews of the bigger version that liked it. BUT it is heavy -- 21 oz. A 4 oz snowpeak giga stove or similar would work as well except in very windy conditions. I've got an older version of this:

I do like the eta pots, but they're heavy (my 2.1 Liter is 12 oz).

Providing the canister fits the connection (Lindal valve, the one used also by MSR/Kovea/Jetboil, well most) the difference in performance has to do with the fuel inside.
Down to freezing (32f...) all fuels will perform about the same, not worth paying extra.
Below that, use IsoButane ( down to 10f) or better still the highest mix of Propane to Butane you can find (like 30% Propane/70%Butane) will work better.
Propane will ignite down to -43f .

Check out this web page. With a little reading you will learn more about gas canisters then you will ever want to know.

One nice thing about the primus, one can invert the canister to improve cold weather performance. Make sure you read the web page carefully before doing this.

Well, after reading a little, I guess my stove is going to be fine, I think if I do get something different it could possibly be a Jetboil PCS or something to that effect...still haven't made my mind up yet :-?
