Last October, I got an unusual wake up call, I am hanging out with friends and the party is full of people and suddenly my friend points to my neck and says – hey you need to see this! I look in the mirror and my neck is past my chin! I instructed him to take a picture with my cell phone and went to the doctor on Monday. He dismissed me at first and then I showed the picture from Friday night and he was amazed. Well after the fact, I discovered Goiters. A swelling of the Thyroid, that can be prevented.
For years I knew the secret of staying slim is exercise and keeping track of salt & sodium in food. In fact looking back I really didn’t salt food at all, using lite salt instead. Well both have a good value of Iodine, and I clearly now have a problem with Iodine. You find out the hard way with Iodine as one day a soft portion of your body swells up like lips, neck or something will enlarge when you eat an ocean bottom feeder like clams a discovery I found at the age of 26. Then you know. Iodine and CAT scans are not your friend. Yes, This might be a gene, there is no clear answer. Doctors who do this specialty do not appear to have an answer, this just happens. The thyroid was removed Monday and the final result will be next Monday when they tell me if it was cancer. My doctor tells me he does personally 200 operations a year to remove the thyroid. The operation is a clear walk in the park vs. other operations I have had growing up. Right now my neck has a zipper all the way across and they mentioned they might have to go back and take the left thyroid as well. Strange it just doesn’t bother me, I can’t wait to be hiking again. Today I am 48 and have a second lease on life.

Please be careful if you are on a diet or just trying to loose weight.

Here is a picture from a country that does not have iodized salt (Not ME).

I am clearly down playing this as I don't want to alarm folk. On the other hand I have had some of my best freinds shake my hand and say "Hey come back next week so I know you're still around."

Good easy read

I hate it when that happens!
