Actually, the bear was just miffed it wasn't an American vehicle.

When we paddled Woodland Caribou Provincial Park in western Ontario we left our van parked in the bush, about 85 miles from the nearest town.

We had been warned a problem bear was breaking into cars and tearing them up, including biting tires causing multiple flats. We were told not to leave any food or wrappers whatsoever in the vehicle (including canned food) and NOT TO EAT IN THE VAN ON THE WAY UP.

The rangers advised PineSol can be a "bear repellent" if liberally spread in, on and around the vehicle.

When we arrived at the put in there were several cars and trucks parked and the whole place smelled like a cleaning convention.

That lady said "it was painful" to watch the bear tear up her car. It's just a car and you know they were going to total that thing.

My girlfriend (also hiking partner) works as an insurance claims agent and we always get a good laugh out of people who act like losing thier car is the single worst experience of thier life. She deals with people on a daily basis who call up in tears because thier SUV/BMW/Lexus or PT Cruiser got a ding in the fender and they "just don't know what they are going to do". Whether it is an accident, theft, or fire...as long as you survive, you can buy another car. It's just a "thing". People are silly.
