^-8 people wanting to plan camping trip for Labor Day weekend in advance. Will be hot so hoping to be near a water source. We all like to stay up late chatting so campground isn;t preferred. We prefer some finger of a national forest (maybe off some forest road) which allows for some form of car camping. 2-3 in our group arent backpackers. southern PA/Va/WV/NC are all within allowable driving distances but really prefer central to western Va. Thanks for any and all help extended.

clarification when I said campground not preferred. I meant public campground where our late night chatter may keep our neighbors awake.

There aren't any national forests in southern Pennsylvania.

I just hiked down into the Seneca Creek/High Meadows area below Spruce Knob in WV (very beautiful area -- here is a link: http://www.hikingupward.com/MNF/HighMeadowsSenecaCreek/) via the Huckleberry Trail, and there were a number of campgrounds there. Some within a quarter or a half mile of the Spruce Knob overlook parking lot. Great camping under Spruce, complete with fire rings and even stone slab furniture (many of the sites in the area have these. someone's been busy!) to sit on.

Now I honestly recommend the sites off the trail I linked to, but if you're only up for car camping, don't mind a short walk (many of the sites are before any decent from top of the mountain), want amazing views from Spruce Knob (here is some more info: http://www.wvhome.com/wvhome/FunHouse/images/SpruceKnob/SpruceKnob.htm), and even a quick trip to nearby Seneca Rocks (http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/mnf/sp/senrcks_txt.html), then this might work for you.
