Looking for a lightweight frameless pack around 2000 CI. Needs to be under 1lb. Would like a back pocket and side pockets. The old Golite Day would have been great but I cant find any. (i was in a bid war for one the other day and the damn thing sold for $167 can you believe that!!!)

Would a regular school backpack work for you? I guess it would depend on weight in your case, but I am sure there are other smaller packs that would take care of what you need.

How much under 2000 cu/in is okay? There are a couple AR packs that might fit the bill.

The Virga is 1 pound 3 oz, but it is 3200ci, for about $100.

You could make up some of that 3oz with the extra volume by using a CCF pad instead of a self-inflator, or maybe by avoiding compression sacks and stuff. Just a thought.

You should be able to DIY under a pound for sure though.

Something from Gossamer Gear, or a ULA Conduit. http://ula-equipment.com/conduit.htm

Used this pack for 3 years now and love it... Holds up well and packs extremely easily with tons of space.... Would recommend to anyone if you're a oz. counter but want a larger pack

I would second the ULA Conduit. It has a front pocket and side pockets. The main bag with extention collar is about 2100 cu, but the stretchy pockets increase the volume to 57L when you need it but lay flat when you don't (well the front pocket does at least). Mostly Dyneema body for $100.

I like the look of that ULA Conduit as I think my Kelly Kettle might fit in that mesh pocket. I've been kind of stuggling to find a good place for it on my Jam2. Still I am very happy with the way the Jam2 fits blue foam pad like a big hollow tube. The main compartment tapers towards the top, but it still fits well because it doesn't taper at the bottom like the Conduit. Might still work with the Conduit though. Looks like it would work with the Virga also. I think its important to be able to do that with a larger UL pack, because blue foam pads are cheap and light and warm for their weight, they just take up volume. Makes it easier to load the pack without sagging also.

my range is 1900-2500 for the main compartment The ULA is too heavy. Ive got a pinnacle that I have down to 22 ounces so I dont want to buy a new bag and save only 5 ounces. 22-17=5

The Blast 18 is 1800 cubes and weighs 3.3oz. Fit the bill?

You've had two nominations for the Gossamer Gear Murmur but chosen to ignore them. It fits the bill.

Not many sub 1 lb packs are going to last more than 2 or 3 seasons.
