Does anyone have this rain jacket, and if you do, how has it held up?

I actually had a Marmot Precip that I foolishly sold. I'd buy the Marmot again, but only paid $50 for the first one. I have a thread in the wanted to buy section. Any other suggestion on a real inexpensive jacket like these for a looong hike?

I had some for my kids a few years ago and they were usable but not great. Certainly not of the quality that another $30-40 would get you.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Another $30 could get me the precip at Campmor on sale. I just hate to pay the $6.95 shipping when most folks have free shipping over $50.

Shop around and I'll bet you can find it cheaper than Campmor or at least with free shipping. Try www.Nextag.com and you should gets lots of options.

I've got that jacket. It's ok. Nothing like my SD though. I would suggest something else if the rain is expected in long duration.

The description says short term, it looks like it wouldn't make it very far by it's own description.

I have this one (http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___77699), use it and like it (for shoulder season hikes and winter). Not super breathable..but that is why I only use it when it is colder out. :)
Just a KISS jacket that does the job. For Less than $25, I ain't complaining.

LOL, it even suggests that you "just throw them away" when the trip is over. I guess that says it all about the durability factor.

No Dave, sad to say but you got unlucky buying a Precip laminate B/C they DE-laminate around the neck and shoulders within a year of good use. Too many on several forums have had this problem W/ Marmot's Precip for it to be just a one-off problem.

I've got it and it's a very well made, very waterproof jacket. It's not actually "breathable" as the description says, though, but it has lots of ventilation vents. My biggest complaint was that it's not 12.8 oz as the description says. Mine is actually 15 oz., not counting the stuff sack (which you don't need because it stuffs into the right pocket).
Looks like my boys' Campmor jackets, which, though advertised as waterproof, are water resistant. We found this out during a backcountry trip in the low 30s last January. Not a positive experience.

i only hiked with one of those $1 plastic rain ponchos and loved it. can't get any lighter than that! doesn't breathe at all so you sweat a lot, but it otherwise does the trick. and amazingly i just used one the entire way and never got a rip in it. i just don't see what the need would be for a $100+ fancy rain jacket.
I have the Campmor Men's Storm Venture and I am not terribly impressed. I am also not exactly impressed with the precip either. If you compare them side by side they are pretty much near identical and approximately the same weight. Having been in the same exact same downpours with people wearing them, they performed closely. IE: we were all complaining after about 2 hours of mapping glacial moraines.
Just my 2 cents, I've worn it in TORRENTIAL rain, hail, and snow in Wyoming during a very wet June and while it never failed me, it certainly isn't breathable or very light. The pit zips and hood (with brim) are fantastic, but mine is now approaching it's third birthday and the waterproofing isn't quite what it used to be.
I would look for something lighter and since this really doesn't breath at all, i wouldn't buy it for the gimmick.
