Not me, but there is great hiking in Eglin AFB. The Florida Trail Association (FTA) has a chapter there. Look 'em up Tom Daniel is a great guy, and a heckuva trail builder. In the past 2 years the FTA completed a new section on the base that I haven't hiked yet.

I want to do some hiking in Torreya prolly next fall when it gets less buggy. I'm not a panhandler (I thought that this was what this thread was about). I live in G'ville.

I had to do a double take..I thought the tread said pan-HANDLER hikers. :o

Would make hiking any trail a different experience...

Well, I'm in the Panhandle, and I do occasionally hike, but I agree with Johnny; this area is really more for paddling. I head to the mountains to hike.

My wife would love it if I got partners to hike with instead of solo.

sorry, all you bums, for the confusion. i think the term "panhandler" has gone the way of "hobo"...there aint none of them left.

Sounds like a plan, if you don't mind out of shape hikers. :) My new job is a killer for my former workout routine!

I live in Tallahassee, just got back from a small section of the A.T. Amicolola Falls to Unicoi gap. I go to torreya all the time... really the only place to get some decent rock under your feet. Meet a father-son team out for the night from pensacola while I was up there...

Maybe we can have a FL WB get together at Torreya next winter.

I love hiking up there. I want to come up that way soon while it is cool. Any takers for a couple of day trips?

All this talk of L.A. is making me miss my old stomping ground around FWB.

I'd still like to have a get together at Torreya, but, I have some questions. I've camped at the family campground there and walked about 2 miles down from there.

My question is...if we had a get together, is there a backwoods campsite that would hold 10 or more tents/hammocks? Can you cover all the trails in a day hike or is it worth it to backpack to the hiker's campsites?

If someone has a plan, let us know and we'll do it. Let's doit by March before it warms up to much.

Here is a map...
