I. The 30th day of May, 1868...............Let no neglect, no ravages of time, testify to the present or to the coming generations that we have forgotten as a people the cost of a free and undivided republic.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memorial_Day

If you are able,
save for them a place
inside of you,
and save one backward glance
when you are leaving
for the places they can
no longer go.

Be not ashamed to say
you loved them
though you may
or not always have.

Take what they have left
and what they have taught you
with thier dying
and keep it with your own.

And in that time
when men decide and feel safe
to call the war insane
take one moment to embrace
those gentle heroes
you left behind.

Most gave some, some gave all. I don't take it for granted. Thanks for the post.

Thank you to all the brave heroes who served, to keep us free!!

Thanks to my father, who served in the US Navy, and served in Pearl Harbor in 1941 and the Battle of the Coral Sea in May of 1942.

Thanks to my uncle who gave the ultimate sacrifice for freedom, serving for the USMC, 1st Marine Division during the Battle of Peleliu in September of 1944.

And thanks to my son, who continues to train at Fort Sam Houston in Texas for the US Army, 32d Medical Brigade.

Keep us safe....Keep us free! You are the true Heroes!

Hoisted a special "Old Glory" this AM. It was sent to me from an Iraqi vet with this proclamation: "This certifies that the accompanying flag was flown over the Headquarters of the Multi-National Corps-Iraq in your honor during Operation Iraqi Freedom" I was both humbled and proud by this gift

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life wrote a
blank check made payable to "The United States of
America" for an amount of "up to and including my
life." That is Honor, and there are way too many people
in this country who no longer understand it. :sun
