The wife gets out of school June 16th and this will be her first chance to hike this year. I want to take her on a nice section hike. Everyone says this is a great area that she is sure to enjoy. If you had a choice would you hike south to Damascus or north to Atkins. I also plan to use the Virginia Creeper trail as it gets a lot of good reviews. Thanks for any info you can provide. I want her to have a good trip so she will want to go for a few more weeks this summer.

Southbound Atkins to Damascus. No Question At All.
Definitely SOBO. Great hike too - if you time it right I highly recommend Hurricane Campground.

Another vote for SOBO, ending with a nice stroll down the Creeper Trail into downtown Damascus, hopefully in time for a burger and beer at Dot's. Mid-June should be lovely.

You may want to get in touch with Happy Hiker Hollow Hostel in Adkins (it's more like a very reasonably priced B, D and B) to start your hike. Reservations only, (276) 783-3754 ask for Rambunny. You can leave your car there and get a shuttle back from her or probably Lone Wolf in Damascus
Ever been from Big Meadows to Thornton Gap? :-? :banana:jump:datz

I just did Atkins to Damascus this weekend. Trail was great. If you don't like doing road walks I would stay off the non AT portion of the Creeper trail.
Blissful
