Can someone point me in the direction of some assistance in planning to hike the GA portion of the AT. I would arrive in Atlanta and need to somehow end there which means I would have to take a bus or other means to the Start Point and from the end Point to Atlanta.

Anyone ever done this?

Help??

Thanks,
Todd

If you have a car, you could drive to Amicalola falls and then get a shuttle up to the north end. Then walk back to your car. Parking would cost you $2 for the whole trip, and shuttles vary.

To hike the entire GA section you will probably have to start at a crossing in NC.

Todd,

If you go to the SEARCH button on the top of the page and type in quotes: "Georgia section", you will find some previous discussions of this topic. You may find some info there that will be of interest to you. Some of the first things you need to decide is when, where you want to start and where you want to end. As odd as it may seem when you mention the Georgia portion of the AT, there are options as to where you may want to start as well as where you may want to end.

Just beware the mice, bears, and other varmints this time of year. I hear they're real active in the summer and it'll be a real chalenge keeping your food safe.

Todd,

When I section hiked the GA AT last fall, I went on the Internet to the experts. The GATC. They were phenomenally nice and helpful. I posted a message and got over a dozen good replies.

Here's the link to my trip report, which I posted here on WhiteBlaze--

Let me know if you have any other questions I can help with. I drove and arranged for friends to shuttle my vehicle, so I didn't have the transportation questions you do, however. I do know there is a new hiker-hostel-shuttle in the area that seems to be very helpful. Maybe someone has the link to their site? I lost it in a computer crash.

Josh and Leigh Saint at hikerhostel.com have been very helpful to me in planning a fall '04 section hike of Georgia. Other hikers have given them great reviews also. Hope this helps! :)
