They call it a yo-yo hike from what I've read. I doubt many people actually do it since you'd really have to love it, have enough money to do it, and really have to figure your timing out well if you didn't want to get locked out of portions of the Trail that get closed during certain times of the year.

That's about all I know about it. Useless post #14...

Useless post #14...

Was talking about myself there, not you. Just looked up and saw you had exactly 14 posts when I said that and it might be misconstrued. :banana

We met Rambo Ron in GA toward the end of his yo-yo. He started the year before (2006), hit Katahdin, headed back South and spent the winter in PA, then hit the trail South again when the snow began to let up. He wasn't in a hurry as he enjoyed being on the trail and was determined to stop at every hostel and shelter along the way. Seems like rather than being in a big hurry, that may be an interesting way to approach the AT. I know others have done it, but RR is the only one we met.

When I met Eagle in '07 he was on his third stretch of yo-yo (heading back north after going north and south already). He also did the Triple Crown but I'm not sure what year.

I also met Rambo Ron in Tennessee in '07, making his way slowly south.

the bare foot sisters did it. quite a few people have people have done it. I think only one has done a CDT yo-yo and probably only 2 or 3 have done a PCT yo-yo.

Ward Leonard has done 3 hikes in a calendar year, don't know where he started but I believe it was Springer-Katahdin turned around and went back to Springer then back to Katahdin, this would have been early 90's I believe.

He also holds the record for an unsupported thru-hike, 60 days

Ward was an incredible hiker despite the gossip about him.
