I was hitching into blacksburg with a few friends and I left my laptop in the back of a guy's S.U.V. This is especially frustrating when you take into account that I have to keep moving. The mans name was Sam. I dont have an exact on his last name. It was italian, something like sabanini. He had a black S.U.V. with a big red kayack on top and he was a fisherman. My laptop is a Dell Vostro 1500 series. It is in a yellow Sea to Summit waterproof bag. There is a chance he hasn't realized it is in his car yet. If you know this man or if you just see him driving down the street, I would greatly appreciate it if you directed him to this ad, or to my email address. I dont have much money but I will try to make sure you are compensated. My laptop is really no good to anyone else anyway. It's bios locked, pretty beat up, and I have the charger. Thanks in advance. Please help me

Ouch bud! That is a rough loss. Hope there isnt alot of personal info on there and it is password protected. On the lighter side of things you are a couple LBS to the good.

Where exactly did you get picked up at? Do you know what town the driver lived in? There are a limited number of convenience stores in that area along 460 and you might be able to get your information posted in one of them. Since he's a fisherman, I'd suggest calling Tangent Outfitters, they sell a lot of fishing stuff moreso than any backpacking gear.

Good luck! Unless there is a sticker with your contact info on the outside of the case, there is no way he will be able to find you and the chances of finding him again are slim. You might get lucky though, cross your fingures! I hope there is no irreplaceable data on the laptop.

This post and the one about trying to find the guy who lost his camera has motivated me to label anything I'd late to lose with my name and phone number.

Sorry for your loss - I'd really hate to lose my notebook.

Yeah labeling is a good idea.

Hope it works out.

Try PMing Tenbeer. He lives in Blacksburg and may be willing to post some notices at gas stations or convience stores in the area.

I label everything with a engraver (or a knife point)- telephone, labtop, camera..... My name and a phone number to call if its found. Also helps to use yellow paint to fill in the lettering on black plastics.

Hope you get it back

Here's a link to the local community bbs.
http://nrvnews.com/ (http://nrvnews.com/)

You can try posting a free lost ad describing what happened and a description of the person and vehicle. Chances are someone will be able to ID the person. Also, Blacksburg is on Craigslist so you can try there too.

I use those sticky address labels charities send to label my important stuff. Back in 2005 I lost my cell phone in the Shenandoahs. It was found, turned in to the rangers, who mailed it back to my home. Sweet! Hope you get your laptop back. Man that's heavy to carry hiking though.

You may also want to contact the ATC in case he notifies them once he finds it in his SUV.

Did you have any file in the PC with your contact info. Maybe he will find a file with your phone number on it.

Check with the local Blacksburg PD and Sheriff's office...if I were the finder, that's probably what I'd do with it, no knowing who else to contact. (Even if I called them later from home whenever I found it in back). Check now, and give it a couple of days and call back again...and again later.

The BIOS is locked dude. The finder wouldn't even be able to boot the laptop up if he wanted to, unless he knew the password.

I called the ATC in Bburg as well as the Post Office. They have no knowledge. I also called the Bburg Police and the Property Clerk is off till Monday. I will check back then. The property clerk for Blacksburg PD is Liz Moore 540-961-1171. It might be worth making a report also. John
