How much time do you have, how far south are you going (Springer?), and how fast do you hike? :-)

From Brevard you could get to Fontana Dam and have ~ 160 miles to Springer.

Closest is probably Winding Stair near Franklin just off 64, about 60 miles away, which would give you around 100 to springer.

I'd like to find someway to get to hot springs, n.c.?
I'm hiking to unicoi in ga and I hike around 25 miles a day and have 2 weeks so 160 is a little short. haha

You have quite a selection from Sams Gap to Winding Stair Gap. Winding Stair would be your closest trailhead.

Check with Ron Haven of Franklin.

If you want to hit north of the Smokies, try Curtis at Standing Bear Farm.

Then BMO in Hot Springs.

You could thumb bum to hot springs, not sure if there is a bus, but I bet there is someone there who would shuttle you in
