I'm interested in making a tarptent and I'm wondering which of these to make. I've never attempted to do anything like this, but I figure it'll be a good experience. Has anyone had experience making either of these tents and if so, what came out of it?
Also, I'm curious as to the protection from rain in these tents. If it starts to downpour, will water run-off inside of the tent?
Thanks.

Not sure of your experience with Sil-Nylon, but it is slick as snot and hard to work with for the newbie. Watch those fingers!
As far as water protection, it is STRONGLY suggested that you seal the seams with a silicone seam sealer.

Of the Thru-Hikers I've spoken with, they stayed very dry.

2 of the three are homemade. the one that i bought is made of ultralite sil. i feel that it is way too lightweight and i do believe that in high wind, the thing would not last. the other 2 i would trust in highwind but they are heavier (3-4 ozs.) the big tent is a 3 man while the other 2 are 1-2 man.
