That's not too shabby, getting others to pay for your vacation under the guise of 'raising awareness'...

What kind of message does this send? If you hiking for a presidential campaign, would hiking less than 25% of the way seem sufficient? Either hike the whole thing or don't do it at all!

Just proves Kerry's campaign isn't even a half-assed one. :) And Billary as his V.P.?

He's hiking from Massachusetts to Washington, a metaphor for Kerry's bid for the Whitehouse. It's the same as if a Bush supporter hiked from Connecticut (where Bush is really from) to Haliburton's Dallas Headquarters.

I just hope he doesn't leave political pamphlets laying around and adhears to those ethics that long distance try to hold true, I have my prejudice to those who come out to the trail to preach a message. Else, I wish him the best on his hike.

I met Jay on the trail over Memorial Day weekend -- we were both staying at Limstone Spring Shelter in CT. He was a nice guy and a pleasure to share the shelter with. He did not attempt to preach to anyone, pass out pamphlets or raise any money on the trail. The only evidence that he is doing a fund-raising hike for Kerry was the bumpersticker on his pack. He was just out enjoying his hike like the rest of hordes out there that particular weekend.

Teej took the time and trouble to tell us that President Bush is from Connecticut and that Halliburton's headquarters is in Dallas.

In fact, Bush was BORN in Connecticut in 1946, and moved to Texas in '48; he was raised mainly in Midland and Houston. To say he's "from" Texas is stretching it. Other than his years at Yale, he's much more a Texan than a New Englander. All his life he's considered himself a Texan; saying he's from Connecticut is a bit silly; it was merely an accident of birth.

And Halliburton's HQ, if memory serves, is in Houston, not Dallas.

Otherwise, Teej, thanx for a timely and thoughtful post.

Or swam to Riyadh.

They're both clowns (shrub and kerry).

As far as the protection of AT and the environment are concerned, we should all hope this is the outcome of the election:
