i just got hubba hubba dirt cheap at a scratch and dent sale are rei.

i set it up and pulled the rainfly out and it was sticky, sticky like suran wrap. and slightly tacky. i let the hose lose on the tent for a few minutes and the rainfly does leak. and it only leaks in a few spots.

i was curious if anyone else has had this problem

and now i know why the tent was so cheap.

Probably because it was stored wet, or for a long time, the nylon may have been heated to the point where it would start to get soft. Im gonna vote for stored wet. If it is leaking over the body of the fly (not at the seams) i would say, try to purchase a new fly if possible.

Wait, if its just a few spots (ADD kicked in while I was reading your post) you may be able to patch the spots.

catepillar jizz. when they mate, the sticky residue falls down onto the tent. its slightly acidic and if not washed off can make your fly permeable to water.

sounds gross but its true.

That's the problem with used gear, you never know who jizzed on it :eek:

maybe baby powder or cornstarch to get rid of the tackyness, or would that just make a big mess?
