Right to Hike, Inc. announces two major events as they continue to celebrate the life of Meredith Hope Emerson

First Annual Union County Remembrance Walk & Festival and Second Annual Ella’s 5k and Fun Run

Right to Hike, Inc. honors the memory and life's passions of Meredith Hope Emerson for her birthday by announcing the following two community events.

On Aug. 15, 2009, the Members and Board of Trustees of Right to Hike, Inc. will provide Union County, Georgia a day of celebration properly named the First Annual Union County Remembrance Walk & Festival. The event will include a morning walk at Meek's Park located in Blairsville, Georgia, as well as an afternoon family festival.

“It is an honor that Right to Hike has chosen to bring such an outstanding event to Union County to celebrate the life of Meredith Emerson. While her life was short, her accomplishments were many and the positive impact she made on this community and all those who assisted in her search, who never knew her, will be felt for years to come. We are pleased to be involved with this event to honor her memory,” says Union County Commissioner, Lamar Paris.

The funds raised through contributions of sponsors and donations by participants will benefit Right to Hike, Inc., Blairsville Chapter of the Red Cross, Blairsville Humane Society and Union County Search and Rescue.

Please bring your families and pets to this beautiful part of our State on Saturday, August 15, 2009. The festival will be filled with games, live entertainment, fellowship, and many local area merchants will be on hand to provide arts, crafts and cuisine.

Meredith's Remembrance Walk will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the covered bridge at Meek's Park and will be about one (1) hour in duration. The Walk will provide you with some of the most breathtaking sites in North Georgia.

The Festival will begin at 11:00 a.m. after the walk and will be filled with games, live entertainment, fellowship and many local area merchants will be on hand to provide arts, crafts and cuisine for the whole family! And be on the lookout for registration information in the very near future for our Festival's Softball and Cornhole Tournaments at www.righttohikeinc.com (http://www.righttohikeinc.com/typo3/ext/fastblast/mod1/FastBlastWow.php?act=click&camp=29&url=2a102aa27d799849027344aff29f58cf).

Right to Hike, Inc. is also proud to announce the Second Annual Ella’s 5k and Fun Run on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at The Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center in Buford, GA. This event was named the “2008 Event of the Year” presented by the Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau.

”Last year, Ella’s Run had over 600 participants and it was an unbelievable display of community support. Everyone there was touched by Meredith and her story. They brought their families and their dogs, we could feel Meredith’s smile at every moment of the event,” says Julia Karrenbauer, friend of Emerson’s and President of Right to Hike, Inc.

This year the event will again feature a 5k run/walk and a one mile fun run/walk. It will be a brand new course and people are also encouraged to participate with their dogs. After the race, the celebration will continue with a festival. More details will come at a later date.

Early registration is now open for Ella’s Run. The registration link is located on the homepage of www.righttohikeinc.com (http://www.righttohikeinc.com/typo3/ext/fastblast/mod1/FastBlastWow.php?act=click&camp=29&url=2a102aa27d799849027344aff29f58cf). 5k participants can sign up for $25 and Fun Run participants are only $15. There is also a special children’s discount of only $10 for participants 16 years of age and younger.

Each participant will receive the 2nd Annual Ella’s 5k and Fun Run t-shirt. Also, each dog that participates will get a special medal from Right to Hike, Inc. Get your family and friends involved by encouraging them to support you through donating to your run/walk. Anyone who raises over $100 will be presented with an appreciation gift.

Right to Hike, Inc. is now accepting applications for vendors and sponsors for both events. Please visit www.rightohikeinc.com (http://www.righttohikeinc.com/typo3/ext/fastblast/mod1/FastBlastWow.php?act=click&camp=29&url=11a626483fd29dd0e2a2692ce34e8ace) for more information.

We look forward to these two events as we continue to celebrate Meredith’s life and try and make the difference in the community that Meredith would have.

If I was within several hours of northern Georgia, I would be there.

It is so sad that an evil man cut short the life of a wonderful woman. Sending good thoughts to her family & friends. Good to see that they have found a way to honor her in a meaningful way.
