judging from the weather lately, i don't think you need to worry
Yeah, lack of water definitely won't be an issue!
i think alaskan went to go check... haven't seen him lately
water-a-plenty for the foreseeable future
Passed through northern VT(RT 2) earlier in the week,
stream and rivers running fast.
Although there's been lots of rain this spring, and water is rarely a problem on the LT, the stretch from Laura Woodward shelter to Journey's end is almost always dry, so camel up on your last (or first) day.
The only place I had had issues finding water was at Shooting Star Shelter.
The pump on the spring there has been removed or stolen it appears. If you go about 500 feet down the hill from that shelter there is a water source yet not a very good one at all even with all the rain. The closest 'good' water source there is about 1 mile south.
Besides that water at all of the other shelters I have been too has been great.
Given all the rain in the northern New England states this summer (news says we are closing in on being in top 10 of rainiest summers ever recorded) your only worry will be too MUCH water. As in mud mud mud and high streams.

I just returned from doing a section between Bennington and Wallingford and the trail is an absolute mud bog. Streams going under, across, over and along the trail. Wettest trail I have ever walked on.

The monsoon seems to be over in New England, but some places have still been getting hit with thunderstorms that drop up to 4" of rain in a few hours.
Any idea on how the mud situation will be in September and October

It's kind of hard to say with New England weather.
The trails are still wet and muddy, but they have dried out some since sprint even with all the rain we have seen.
I would assume things will continue this way slowly.

This is what worries me when I start on August 1st, I keep hearing how muddy it is. Hiking through non-stop mud is no fun :(
