Are the showers at fontana open year round? My companion says
May-Nov, or is that just for the tours of the dam and visitor center?

I'm pretty sure they turn all of the water off until May.

was there January 21 -22 and they were working great. nice and hot:D but the lights are on a timer. off at 5 back on at 7 am. all other water; outside faucets, waster fountains are turned off.

There are showers now installed at the bathrooms near the Fontana Hilton shelter. They are accessible year round. The bathrooms/showers at the visitor center are also open 24/7/365.
Fontana Dan showers ROCK!!! After a week's worth of grime and sweat had soaked into every pore of my body and my clothing was ready to be burned I found the Fontana Dam showers. My recipe for these showers - turn on every hot water showerhead in the showers, steam up the place, and sit in the chair in the middle of the showers soaking it all, and soaking off all the yuk!
AHHH!! there's nothing like that steaming hot shower after that long downhill!
