Hi - I'm in the process of choosing my summer bag. I'm going with the Marmut Helium for cold weather but looking for something a little lighter and cooler for summer. I'm considering either the Mont Bel UL SS #5 40 degree or the SS #7 50 degree bag. I'm curious as to what others use during warmer weather.

Thank You;)

Mountain Hardwear Phantom 45 worked great for me last year. Check the down fill quantities and specs--when I did that, the Phantom had a little more down than other 40s, for a lower price, and at 17 oz the weight was competitive with the very lightest. I thought it worked fine down to the upper 30s a few times.

I'd like to sell the Phantom 45 (regular)--PM me if you're interested in a used bag.

PS: I used the Helium to start with, too, and can't say enough great things about that bag--it really worked well down to 15F in blowing snow. Congratulations on buying an excellent bag.

i'd recommend something like a lafuma +40 synthetic for summer. you're going to get it absolutely filthy and covered in bug spray and muck. you can find one of these for under $50 if you shop around. it's roomy, full zipper to use as a quilt, packs small, and weighs under 2 lbs
