I recently bought a Eureka Solitaire tent and broke BOTH poles on the first night that I used it. I really like the tent, it is plenty roomy for me and my gear (I'm 5'10'' and 150 lbs). I was disappointed to find that it weighed about a full pound more than the box said it would, but I guess maybe I didn't understand the difference between "minimum weight" and "carrying weight." Still, it's the lightest tent I've ever owned. Now to get some new poles........

I got a quote on some Easton Aluminum poles that come slightly "pre-curved." Has anyone used this type of pole and can I expect them to be much stronger/durable than the 6.3mm fiberglass ones that I just broke? When I get whichever new poles, should I just tape them up before I even use them to prevent future breakage? I look forward to any advice so I can get this resolved and get back in the woods. Thanks.

Thanks for the your reply. I spoke with their customer service and they can send a replacement set.......for $28.95.........same 6.3mm fiberglass.........and currently out of stock. The Easton aluminum poles aren't much more than that and I may go that route depending on what I hear about their durability.

That really surprises me that they wouldn't replace the poles. Especially since you only used it one night. Did you try these guys http://www.polesforyou.com/? Or here http://www.questoutfitters.com/tent_poles.htm#TENT%20POLES? Not very hard to put your own together.

When you go to replace the tent, look at Tarptents. If one of Henry's products had failed like that, he'd be overnighting you a replacement. With apologies.

Easton aluminum replacements should be quite a bit stronger. I've also had fiberglass poles break in strong winds.

I went ahead and ordered a set of aluminum poles from www.polesforyou.com (http://www.polesforyou.com). They arrived in just over a week after I ordered them . They were made "pre-curved" and I was pleased to find that they weighed only about 1/2 of the original fiberglass poles. I've used them for four nights now with no problems at all......and glad to be back in the woods. I highly recommend this outfit and the aluminum poles if you're having problems with the fiberglass.
