With Independence Day being Saturday and my thoughts on what a great country we live in I began to think about the American flag.
We have the freedom to engage in all types of entertainment , and people proudly display the American flag while celebrating the 4th while at outdoor sporting events and fireworks displays among other activites.
My fellow hikers , how many will be displaying the flag this weekend and to those still thru-hiking , how many will leave the trail and buy a flag , however large or small and carry it with them for rest of their journey ?
How many will summit Katadin with an American flag attached to their backpack in plain view or clutched in one hand as they pose for photographs ?
