About to do a trip with a few friends between Mount Rogers NRA and Damascus, just wondering what we should look out for and look forward to. Thanks!

The blue blaze to Rogers summit, no vista but the forest is kewl.
Nice view from Buzzard Rock.
I'd blue blaze up Wilburn Ridge for the views too.
Blueberries at Scales from early August onward maybe.
Rhodies on the Pine Mt. Trail have passed bloom but it's a nice trail.
There's a good water hole a mile south of Straight Branch parking right on the Creeper Trail if you like to jump off water falls (it's only 7').
Creeper Trail Cafe in Taylors Valley has pretty good hot dogs.
The wild ponies are kinda cute.

Definitely take the side trail to the summit of Mt. Rogers. It's a magical fir and moss forest.

When are you going? I'll be hiking that section (with my father and kids joining me in some sections) in a couple weeks. I hope to go out for two weeks starting in Damascus and heading north. My plan is to drive down on July 19 and hike July 20-31.

Hang with the cows at Elk Gardens.
Ponies in Graysons.
Blue Blaze the Creeper from Taylors Valley to 58. Lots of cascades.

The Creeper Trail Cafe in Taylors Valley. Easy access from the AT when you come down from Saunders Shelter/Straight Mountain.

We're going from mount rogers NRA south starting the 12th so we'll probably be out of Damascus by the time ya'll start.

I completely agree. I walked past it twice before I walked down it. I'm sorry I missed it the first two.

I'll be heading out the same time too! Me and a friend are trying to figure out if there is a way for us to get from Columbus to Damascus without driving though. We want to head down there Sunday night and start early on Monday. She is only going as far as Marion but I'm going to be out for about nine days, or until I reach route 77.

Actually, We might drive and park the car somewhere near Marion for her to pick it up once shes done. Anyone know how to get from Marion to Damascus?

Make sure you hit the Grayson SP area/Thomas Knob shelter area...cool wild ponies that everyone always seems to enjoy.

Fatties and Quincey'sThe burgers at Fattie's are pretty much the stuff there. Get the black and blue burger with fries and an ice cold beer!
