View Full Version : Rank these interms of cost
For the thru hikers, which was most costly.
A) Gear
B) Lodging
C) Food
D) Fun
1. Food
2. The rest.
Though I probably hike on the cheaper end of the scale, and get some of my gear for free each year.

Split with lodging and food. It cost us $4K per perons to do the trail, not including gear.

I can't believe there is any situation Jester, you can not talk or joke your way out of.
There should be a miiscellaneous section which to me would be another grand.

I'd have to say:
1- food
2- lodging
3- fun
4- gear
That is provided you already have at least some gear. If you are buying all brand new that could change.
And of course it could all fall into the fun category.:D
It all depends on YOUR choices

As a former engineer, I'm just anal enough to have tabulated that stuff. Here's mine:
Food: $1400 ($700 each in town and trail food)
Lodging: $800 (double occupancy mostly)
Gear: $500 (didn't need to buy much, mostly shoes)
Travel: $700
Fun: Priceless
Total: $3400
