for hikers at the Elkwallow Wayside at SNP?.. or maybe the picnic area there? Would be leaving vehicle there for a week and doing many of the trails around that area. Anyone done such a thing from this location in the park?

I parked at the picnic area. No problems. I lost the little end skirt to one of my hiking poles on the knob mountain trail. Let me know if you find it.

And don't forget to get a camping permit.

Those damn end skirts.... I noticed one missing too after hiking up Hightop Mtn to watch fireworks on the 4th.

I set the alarm in hopes of catching a magnificent sunrise .
Well it wasn't bad but the low hanging clouds would later give way to rain.

Back to the question of the OP.

I have left a vehicle at the Wayside for half a day with no issues.

Check with a Ranger if you have any questions about leaving a vehicle there for a few days.

You have to get a permit at the visitor's center and when you do you'll register your vehicle with the rangers as being left at Elk Wallow. We left ours there for 3 days no problem. In season, when the wayside store is open, it's very nice to end there and be able to buy food and drinks and just relax at a picnic table for awhile.
