I have packages of sealed unopened aquamira with expirations in 2007. Can I still use safely? I hate to toss out something that still has use. Thanks, Aquaman. :-?

They're cheap enough. Toss 'em.

Toss them. Aquamira does lose it effectiveness over time.

toss. Medicine / chemical expiration dates are when they start loosing effectivness (or worse...)

I recently used AM that had an expiration date of 2006. Didn't get sick. I say as long as it turns bright yellow and you can smell the chlorine it's still reactive.

I would consider letting outdated AM do triple duty. Use it as a weak water purifier, sprinkle it over cous cous or Lipton Sides in place of salt, and use in place of Camp Suds for washing off the trail grime(be careful to avoid the eyes). I believe in taking UL to the next level.

If you are still concerned about purifying your trail H2O buy new AM. Hey, I have bought the two part liquid for as little as $6. Not that's not exactly going to break anyone's bank.

I used the expired AM, used a extra drop or two. Turned yellow and smelled right. No ill effect. Water sources were ponds.

How old were they? The OP had some ~2-years past the expiration.

Use aquamira whenever you want. It aint like milk and it's a placebo anyway. The 6 or so people I have met with giardia had 1 thing in common. They all treated/filtered. Oddly enough I have never treated/filtered, and I know of others who haven't either, who have never been sick on the trail. (excluding of course the occasional overindulgence in alcohol)
