Is Baltimore Jack from Baltimore?
A quote from a Baltimore Jack Post:
Having a great holiday, thanx to Ron and Laura, the owners of the Outfitter at Harper's Ferry......last night to Baltimore, a place I've never been to, which is funny when you consider my Trail name.

How did he get that name? :-?

Maybe he likes the Orioles? Aren't they from Baltimore? Or maybe he looked like one of the players/management...?

Maybe he stayed at the Biltmore Hotel before starting his thru-hike and when someone asked where he came from he thought they meant the night before and said the Biltmore, and they heard it as Baltimore.

Maybe it's because before he got old he used to look like "The Boss" ! :D

Wha..? I thought he was "The Boss!"

Hey, I've certainly never seen the two together at the same time.

Bob Peoples told me the name came from a line in a Bruce Springsteen song. I'm guessing it was "Hungry Heart", but only BJ knows; and he's probably not telling. Also, "The Boss" looks much younger and less worn, but then he hasn't walked as far. :-?

yep, the line is from Bruce "the Boss" Springsteen's 1980 hit: "Hungry Heart" from the album: "the River"...the line goes:.......

.... "Got a wife and kids in Baltimore, Jack I went out for a ride and I never went back..."

any guy thats thu-hiked 8 years in a row...IS the BOSS!

the Lance Armstrong of thru-hiking!

when is Jack's book scheduled to be released?

The only problem with Jack is that, if he is near a CD player, he will play "The Boss" over, and over, and over, and over - until everyone in the vicinity wishes Jack was in Baltimore.

Oh yeah, his name isn't Jack either.

I know his real name. If anyone wishes to find out, bring $100 to the blaze one the tree by the gurgling brook, look for the stinky person wearing a pack and rain jacket covering their face. ;)

How funny.. i always wondered if that line from "Hungry Heart" was the impetus behind the trail name. Seems fitting.

Where is Baltimore Jack in this? Let's have it Jack, how'd you git your name?

I bet he's being quiet because the child support office in Baltimore is looking for him. Ain't that right Jack?

I haven't put in a word yet, cuz I thought this was kind of a stupid thread.

Also recent comments by nameless horse's asses have evidently proven me correct in my original estimation.

But if anyone's truly interested, the Trail name does indeed come from Springsteen's "Hungry Heart" and was principally inspired by the the third and fourth lines of the song and not the second:

"Like a river that don't know where it's flowin'
I took a wrong turn and I just kept going."

A lot of folks take up the Trail when they're at some sort of crossroads in life, and this was certainly true in my case.

And Horse....for your information, nobody's looking for me in Baltimore or anywhere else for that matter. In fact, up til a few weeks ago, I'd never spent more than five minutes in Baltimore......I'm a Bostonian presently living in New Hampshire. And Horse, nobody's looking for me here, either.

But thanks for your concern.

Mountain Dew, so nice of you to rejoin us. I'm hoping that's not his name because that wouldn't be cool, dropping it on here like that.

It is his real name and I don't see any reason why he'd care. Jack is an upfront person with nothing to hide. If you search these forums you'll find his first and last name anyways. What is somebody going to do.... find his house and stalk him ? Good luck ! I'm also a good friend of his......nothing like a little teasing is there....

EDIT: Pencil....do you really think he'll write a book and not actually say his name ? Nope.... oh and it's good to be back.

Beats me... I guess? You're probably right, you know him better than I.
