One trip around the moon is 2160 miles, or just a touch less than the miles of a thru on the AT.
See, totally pointless, but I sort of found it interesting.
According to the 09 companion:
For SOBOs when you get to Gooch Gap you have hiked 1.8 miles further than "Around the moon".
For NOBOs when you get to Hurd Brook lean to, you have just 0.4 miles to go "Around the moon".

The average distance between the Moon and the Earth is 384,403 kilometers (238,857 miles). OR: 109.7 Thru hikes. Now that is a long walk, and all uphill. :eek:

Unless, you plan on spending 109 years in space, where opportunity for resupply is pretty skimpy, you have to keep coming back to earth -- which, of course, would be all down hill.

I think that's the diameter, not the circumference.
But I'd have to google to be sure ;).

Here's another: Space is considered to begin at 50 miles up, so if your car could move vertically, you could drive there in less than an hour.

Or: 3.11 thru hikes ;)

That's why I use the Data Book. . . . no pics or maps but the info is a smidge more accurate. . . . has the word retard been used yet on this thread?:p
