View Full Version : albert mountain, nc
I can see in my guidebook that the trail crosses/goes near USFS 67 in a couple of places near Albert Mt. It looks like the trail also intersects with USFS 83 in the same general area, but I read no mention of this. Does anyone know if it does, because it looks like 83 is a pretty straight shot off of Highway 23/441 just north of the GA/NC line. I'm trying to figure out a convenient spot for a friend to pick me up if I don't make it all the way to Wallace Gap. Thanks!
Albert Mountain does have access from 441. Sorry, I do not recall the FS # but you take the turnoff at Coweeta Lab Road

Egads is correct. FS83 I think is correct from Coweeta Hydrological Lab. It is about 9 miles to the end of the road. The AT south of Albert virtually skirts the road before climbing the mountain. On the north side of the mountain you will come to a forest service road that is gated after descending. Take a right on that road and walk about .2 or .3 to the end of FS83.

Correct. Coweeta lab road becomes FS 83. It goes past the Pickens Nose trail, through Mooney Gap and gives access to either slope of Albert.
Excellent road, as FS roads go.

Oh yes,one other thing.
Just past Mooney Gap you'll veer right on FS 67 in order to make Albert Mtn. I seem to recall a sign there but may be wrong.

I believe you are right Brother Skids. FS83 ends into FS67 just beyond Mooney Gap. FS67 is the one that deadends into a parking area on the north slope of Albert.

as I recall the road runs parallel to the AT for a while

Yes, right near Bear Pen Gap on the South side of Albert.
