That reminds me of when I saw the sticker on the information kiosk on the AT entering Shenandoah National Park (nobo) that said, "Contains no classified information."

If it was me, I'd go off trail for a half mile then pop back out on the trail ahead of them.

That'd be a fairly difficult section to do that on. Steepish on either side of the Trail. Sort of like getting on a water slide without the water.
