Hi -

I'm planning a section hike from MA 8 & 9 in Dalton MA to MA 2 in North Adams MA. I'm just wondering if 1) There is parking at either trail head and 2) If I park at either trail head is there a way to return to my car via shuttle or will I have to try and hitch a ride. I'm from MA and know they can bet pretty strict about hitching. Any info would be greatly appreciated :D

I didn't do this, but I understand there is a bus, Bershire?, that travels these towns.

You can park at Gulf Rd in Dalton, hike to Rt in North Adams. Then you have to ride 3 buses (1/12, 3/31, 4/11) back to Dalton, walking north on Park St to High St, turning left onto Gulf Rd (look for white blazes). Or, just two buses, getting off the 1/12 in Cheshire and hiking 5 miles back over the mountain to Dalton. http://www.berkshirerta.com/schedules.php

Disclaimer: I've never done the bus thing myself.

There's free parking in North Adams at the Greylock Community Club. When you park your car in their lot (patrolled at night), stop inside and give them your name and car info. I've parked my car there several times including most recently on my 2007 Long Trail thruhike (http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=204987). Their phone number is 413-664-9020

I passed alot of thru hikers slackpacking back to Dalton from N Adams. Tom from Depot St would drive them and lend them small packs for the day.

Thanks for the info. I checked out the bus site and I can't figure out if I should park for free in N. Adams and go SOBO or park in Dalton, go NOBO and take the 3 buses back to my car...
