2.5 weeks away from a little walk in the woods starting at DWG, curious how much water I'll have to carry heading north?
Also I read somewhere I think that in NJ I have to camp at the shelters?? That's a flashback to the rules in the Smokies.... I was hoping to hang kinda off the trail left or right.

I've downloaded the pdf into the phone so if/when I'm at a certain spot I can look and see if it is legal.

We're still in good shape here in Pennsylvania. Check out Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center's precipitation departure maps for general information.

Campfires are prohibited in New Jersey. Camping in areas other than those designated by signs also is prohibited in New Jersey.

Hitchhiking is illegal in New Jersey.

Quotes cut and pasted from Appalachian Trail Thru-Hikers' Companion 2009.

More information might be found on NY-NJ Trail Conference's website and a call to them or the appropriate NJ resource management agency should produce answers to any additional regulatory questions you may have.

I didn't see the non too obvious connection to water and vipers! I guess you could use one as a source of fluid in a dire circumstance and I think in the Orient they drink the blood to ummm enhance the mood :) I'd rather carry an extra liter given that choice!

Your hike is still a few weeks off and conditions are getting drier. By the time you enter New Jersey, competition for the remaining water could be getting tough.

More than aside, rattlesnakes tend to be observed right on the treadway!

So this is a little bit of the current subject, but I am looking for some positive words of inspiration from other hikers right now.

My new wife and I are experienced back country hikers. We are planing to thru-hike the AT from April 2010.

The recent VA murders(my they rest in peace) got me looking up the (almost 10 now?)murders that have occured on the trail:(. Which, I didn't know about and I guess was happier not knowing. It has got me down quite honestly a little paranoid about staying in shelters and depressed and hating society. Maybe even scared. There is little reason for that I know. I have never had anything happen. It is my mental battle right now.

Any postive words would help. Thanks
