My son is heading out for a section hike in two weeks. He's going for thirty days. He's 19 and useing this to help him get in shape for the Army. So he has asked me to help him plan some food drops for him since I will be dropping him off and driving back to Erwin. To help him with the cost, I am going to drop him food at Neels, Fontana, and Hot Springs.

My question is how much food should I leave him at Neels. I could either leave him 3-4 days food to get to Dicks Creek Gap or 6-7 days worth to get to Winding Stair Gap.

Is it an easy hitch from Dicks Creek and back to the trail?

Is 6-7 days worth of food too much weight to carry at first, with his inexperience to secton hiking?
He's gone backpacking with me before, but the longest was for three nights.

If he goes into Hiwassee3.5 days food Franklin 3-4 days more.Easy hitch from Dicks Creek. 6 or 7 days is all you really want to carry, 12-14 lbs. Good luck tell him have a great time.

The hitch shouldn't be too bad to Hiawassee from Dick's Creek

Yeah, easy hitch from Dicks Creek for sure. Maybe the easiest hitch in Georgia. Woody Gap might run a close second or maybe even first. Good luck!!
